Governing Council
The Governing Council is made up of elected members of the school community, the Principal and a staff representative. Members are elected for two years.
The Council meets twice a term, and the AGM is held every February. Any member of the school community may attend a meeting, though only elected members vote.
What the Governing Council does
Sets the broad direction
The Council takes in the views of students, parents and the wider community and builds them into the school's direction, with the Principal bringing the staff view. That direction covers a vision for the future, a statement of purpose and a set of values, all pointed at improving student learning.
Develops directional policy
The Council writes the broad policy statements that make the school's vision and direction achievable.
Initiates and approves recommendations
Every recommendation must fit government policy, industrial agreements, Department for Education policy and the school's own decision-making structures.
Monitors and reports on progress
The Council watches the site budget and progress against the Site Learning Plan. At every meeting the Principal and treasurer report against the plans, the priorities and the budget, and a summary of those reports becomes the Annual Report.
Why join
Being on the Governing Council is a way to meet parents from across the year levels and to understand how the school works as a whole. If you are interested, contact the front office.
