Soccer

Our Specialist Soccer program is open to students in Years 2 to 6, from this school and from others.

Students of any ability can apply. Those selected go into the program that suits their level — Advanced, Intermediate or Development — and groups are capped at twelve so every player gets individual coaching.

All programs are run by qualified professional coaches, and are aligned to the Australian Curriculum and to FFSA training development programs.

What the program covers

The program follows the Football Federation Australia National Curriculum, and concentrates on the Skill Acquisition Phase: the four core skills a player needs with the ball.

  1. Striking the ball — short and long passing, shooting and crossing.
  2. First touch — controlling the ball with any allowed part of the body.
  3. 1v1 — the moves, feints and accelerations to get past an opponent, and the defensive techniques to stop one.
  4. Running with the ball — at speed in open space, or dribbling in tight areas, including protecting the ball and changing direction.

What a session looks like

Every session concentrates on one core skill, from start to finish, in three parts.

Skill introduction — the warm-up, and an introduction to the skill for the session.

Skill training — deliberate teaching and practice of that skill.

Skill game — a game set up so the skill has to be used often, with as much of the real game present as possible.

Decision-making, awareness, game insight and problem-solving run through all three. They are not a separate lesson; they are how the skill gets used.
